Our first task of the day was picking up my sister, Paula, from the airport. I was so excited to see her again. I hadn't seen her since Christmas and that was just a one day visit. We have so much fun together and I am looking forward to the next few days of seeing LA with her.
About 8:45 this morning we set out for LAX. Man, this LA traffic is something else. We figured we'd miss rush hour, but I'm beginning to think there is no rush hour - it's all traffic all the time. The traffic moved slowly, but it did keep moving. Paula gave us a call to let us know the plane had landed, but she hadn't gotten off yet, so the timing should be pretty good at picking her up.
She was standing outside the terminal waiting for us in the pick up zone. She looked so great! Of course, Randy jumped out to handle the luggage while I ran over for the important stuff - a huge hug! :) Then, we all jumped back in the truck to get out of the way of the rest of the folks. And we headed for breakfast! Paula had been up since 3am and, of course, to her tummy it was almost 1pm. So, breakfast seemed to be the thing to do.
Since none of us had any real plans for the day, except dinner at our rig this evening with Joe, Paula suggested we take a ride up Pacific Coast Highway which runs along the Pacific Ocean. We were up for that, so off we went.
The PCH (as all the really cool people call it!) goes through all the beach towns you've heard of - Santa Monica, Malibu, Topanga Canyon, etc. It was fun! We took a couple of side roads that took us up the hills of the canyons where all these HUGE houses are located. Man! They literally are built on the side of the mountains/hills. It's a wonder they stay up. And it's funny you expect the houses right along the beach would be all fancy and everything - they're soooo not. Well, not until you get further up the highway, above Malibu. Then, the fancy houses on the beach can't be seen from the road.
We had a great time oohing and ahhing over the houses and the beautiful views of the ocean. Of course, we were laughing and talking about everything and nothing, too. That's one thing Paula and I can do - have fun anywhere and everywhere we are. I love that about us.
Joe, our nephew and Paula's son, came to the park this evening to pick up Paula and to have dinner with us. He looks so good. It was a nice evening.
Tomorrow Paula, Randy & I are going on a tour of movie stars' homes. Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's touristy. And yes, I'm gonna have a blast!!! Then, after Joe gets off work, we're going back to the PCH and have a picnic while we watch the sun set. Isn't that cool? Can't wait.
Until the next time . . .
Sounds like a great day yesterday!!!! Wish I was there.... have a great time today. That should be a blast.
ReplyDeleteOH...MY...Gosh!! You are SUCH a tourist!! LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen Debbie and I were in LA, riding up the PCH was by far one of the best things we did. The west coast is so very different than the east! We also got a movie star map and went to see the homes of the rich and famous. We also went down Hollywood blvd to see the stars on the sidewalk. That was a little disappointing since it's a bad section of town!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're having fun with Paula.
