A Christmas-y Weekend

I had big plans for our weekend as there were several Christmas activities scheduled. The first one was Friday night, which we blew off 'cause we were both beat from our first-of-the-month errands AND it was going to be pretty cold. That event was the lighting of the Christmas tree in Foley Park.

Yesterday we started the day with a sausage biscuit breakfast over at the clubhouse. Larry makes the best biscuits! After breakfast was over, we, along with Darrell & Judy, took off to hit a couple of church bazaars. I love going to these bazaars even though I rarely buy anything. I'm not sure why I like to go, but I do. Guess I really don't need a reason, huh?

We went to Silverhill Covenant Church (where I go to Bible study) first. It was much smaller than I had expected, but had lots of beautiful things, all handmade. One of the vendors was my Bible study leader, Wendy. She is a potter and the items she made for the bazaar were gorgeous! I was very impressed.

Our next stop was a Catholic church in Foley. We had gone to this bazaar last year and it was huge. It was a much different event this year - most of the items were up for bid during a silent auction. That wasn't as much fun.

From there we checked out Foley Park because there was supposed to be a "Let It Snow" festival there, but we were an hour and a half early for that. Seems our Christmas events weren't going quite the way we expected. Oh, well. The four of us certainly enjoy each other's company, so if nothing else was accomplished, we did have a few laughs.

We spent the rest of the afternoon just holed up in the rig, watching TV and vegging.

Today was a bit better in the Christmas-y department. But, first we went to church. Then we met Dick & Pat at Paul's, a new local restaurant. Actually, it's just a new location for this restaurant. We've never been and had heard the food was good, so we figured we'd give it a try. And the food was very good. It's a cafeteria-style arrangement with little "ambience," but we were there for the food. I got fried chicken, which was the best I'd had in a long time and Randy got veal parmagiana which he said was very good as well. The prices were reasonable, too. I'm sure we'll be back. It's only open for breakfast and lunch, so we'll probably go for breakfast sometime.

After lunch we headed over to Oak Hollow Farm. Or so we thought. I was sure I knew where this place was, but it sure wasn't where I thought it was! So, off we went on a hunting expedition. And we were successful! Oak Hollow Farm is an event facility. Just recently a benefit concert with Charlie Daniels Band was held there. Today it was a Christmas Open House with various vendors. It was decorated so prettily and I just loved the venue. Again, we didn't buy anything, but I sure enjoyed looking. And I could have sat on that porch for the rest of the day!

Once we were back home, I settled into the recliner to finish reading a book. I was very close to the end and it was good. Love that Mary Higgins Clark! Then it was on to Christmas cards. This week is dedicated to getting Christmas stuff done - mailing cards, packaging up those gifts that have to be mailed, etc.

I worked on the cards for a couple of hours until it was time to go to the ice cream social. We walked over to the clubhouse, had our ice cream/sherbet, chatted a bit with folks, then walked on back home. With that break, I was ready to finish the cards - and I did, about 8:30pm.

Whew. Now I am posting this to the blog and I am done for the day! Until the next time . . .

  1. I haven't been to a church bazaar in years! I've actually been thinking about it this year since the kids are getting older and would probably love it.

Mary Higgins Clark was the first psycho-killer-suspense author I ever read. Totally turned me on to the genre.
