“Free” $100 Camping World Gift Certificate

We woke up to the sun shining!! What a nice way to wake up. I went to Curves first thing - and I mean first thing, I was in the truck at 6:40!

We had an appointment at noon at Styx River RV Resort to hear a presentation on Ocean Canyon Properties. This is the first time we have ever done something like this. Usually we turn these things done because we have no intention of buying into a time share or vacation property or anything other type of co-op. However, we got a call a couple of weeks ago saying we'd won a $100 gift certificate to Camping World. Of course, the catch was that we come to this presentation. I figured why not? We're retired, we've got the time!

We arrived about 45 minutes early as we'd gone to breakfast and it didn't take as long to get to the campground as we'd thought it might. But, we were invited to get started early. After a five minute video on how wonderful membership is, Greg introduced himself and got started on the presentation. We told him up front that we didn't think this type of membership was for us as we are full-time RVers and this seemed more for vacationers. Of course, Greg thought it would be ideal for us. (He really was a nice guy and not pushy at all.) Then, when he told us the price of membership was $10,995.00, I KNEW it wasn't for us. Oh. My. Gosh!!!!

After we walked around the campground while Greg continued to extol the perks of membership. We continued to let him know that we really didn't think it was for us. We wound our way back to the office and sat down again so that Greg could ask us one more time if we could see ourselves buying into the membership. Once more we said no, it just isn't for us. He finally saw that we were serious, gave us our gift card, and we were out of there.

Now I know there are lots of folks who often sit through these type of presentations and walk away with whatever perk is offered. I am just not one of them. While I realize this is Greg's job and we really didn't "waste" his time, I felt a little like a fraud. We knew going into this that we were not interested in purchasing anything. And I know that these companies know that many people will walk through their doors and not buy what they're selling. But, I'm just not comfortable with it. And we won't be doing it again.

We got home about 1:30 or so and spent the afternoon relaxing in our recliners. I got my March cards written and addressed. We had a chicken and stuffing dish for dinner. Now it's time for more TV and quiet time.

Tomorrow's more music - another gig. Jam 'N' Folks are playing for a private school in Daphne. It'll be interesting to see how the kids respond to our acoustic instruments.

Until the next time . . .
