Won't Be “Moving” Anytime Soon . . .

In addition to our normal first-of-the-month errands, we had one more on the list today.

We've been kicking around the idea of "moving" to Florida. I say that in quotes because, as most of you know, we full-timers pick the state in which we domicile, so moving is all paperwork and nothing more. So, since we spend part of every year in Alabama and Alabama is next door to Florida, it made sense to investigate a move.

Coincidentally, there is a DMV office just down the street from our bank in Pensacola. We stopped in to get an estimate of how much it would cost to tag our truck in Florida. We were concerned about it because we've been told the F550 is usually classified as a commercial vehicle and thought that may increase the cost of registration. The upshot is, while Florida DMV doesn't classify it as a commercial vehicle, they do calculate their registration fees by the gross weight of a vehicle. We had our truck weighed with us in it and everything else we carry in it and it weighed in at 12,000 pounds. That put our registration fee at $155/year.

We pay just $56/year for our truck registration in South Dakota. Even with our feeble brains, we can figure out that South Dakota is a much better deal! :) It may not be as convenient as Florida when it comes time to renew our drivers licenses, but we can put up a little inconvenience every five years for the difference in cost.

So, we'll remain South Dakotans for the foreseeable future. Plus, SD has cooler license plates than FL! :)

We got through with the rest of our errands (bank, propane & grocery) and got back to the RV a little before 1:30. I had a Mardi Gras events meeting at 2pm and then Bible study at 5:30pm. It's been a busy day.

That's it for our Monday. Hope your week is off to a good start. Until the next time . . .
